Deadline Approaches for Holly Springs Residents to Submit Questions for Mayoral and Town Council Candidates
Holly Springs Update and What's Happening Holly Springs Partner to Deliver Candidate Questionnaire Ahead of Municipal Elections. Questions due tomorrow (9/2)
Holly Springs, NC, Sep. 1, 2025 — As previously reported (see below story), Holly Springs Update and the What’s Happening Holly Springs Facebook group have partnered to create a community-driven questionnaire for all mayoral and Town Council candidates. The goal is to give residents direct, unfiltered access to each candidate’s views and priorities before the November election.
This initiative matters because it puts transparency and community input at the center of the process. Instead of relying on endorsements or filtered campaign materials, voters will see each candidate’s responses exactly as submitted, ensuring fairness and clarity.
Important Deadline:
Residents and candidates must submit proposed questions by Tuesday, September 2 at 5:00 p.m. These submissions will help shape the final questionnaire that all candidates will answer.
Questions can be submitted via the form available here or by emailing news@hollyspringsupdate.com.

Holly Springs Update and What's Happening Holly Springs Partner to Deliver Candidate Questionnaire Ahead of Municipal Elections
Holly Springs, NC, Aug. 26, 2025 — With the mayoral and Town Council elections approaching in Holly Springs, two local platforms are teaming up to give residents direct access to candidates’ views and priorities. Holly Springs Update and the What’s Happening Holly Springs Facebook Group announced (link) a partnership to create and publish a community-driven candidate questionnaire.
The effort comes as the Wake County Democratic Party and the Wake County GOP have already released their endorsements for this year’s municipal races, offering residents a clearer picture of where partisan groups stand. But the new questionnaire aims to move beyond party lines by putting unfiltered answers from every candidate directly into the hands of voters.

How the Questionnaire Will Work
According to a joint letter signed by Holly Springs Update publisher Christian Hendricks and Facebook group administrator Aaron Wenzel, the questionnaire is being shaped with input from residents, candidates themselves, and the two organizers. Hendricks and Wenzel will finalize the list of questions, which will then be sent to all candidates for mayor and Town Council at the same time.
Candidates will be given one week to submit responses. Answers will be published exactly as submitted on Holly Springs Update and What’s Happening Holly Springs. Edits will only occur if submitted content is deemed libelous or inappropriate.
“This effort is designed to provide the community with direct, unfiltered insights into the priorities, perspectives, and plans of every candidate on the ballot,” the letter stated.

Intent: Strengthening Civic Engagement
According to Hendricks and Wenzel, the goal is to go beyond campaign slogans and deliver more detail on how candidates intend to address Holly Springs’ rapid growth, infrastructure needs, and community priorities. By ensuring every candidate is asked the same questions under the same rules, they hope to strengthen civic engagement and make it easier for residents to compare visions for the town’s future.
“We believe this process will strengthen civic engagement and give voters the information they need to make thoughtful choices for the future of Holly Springs,” the letter continued.

Local Context
The partnership follows weeks of political activity in Holly Springs. The Wake County Democratic Party recently endorsed a slate of candidates across the county, including Holly Springs, while the Wake County GOP announced support for four local contenders. With endorsements in place and campaigns underway, the candidate questionnaire is positioned as a tool to help residents cut through political messaging and hear directly from the individuals running.
