Apex (NC) Reconsiders Yard Waste Change After Resident Pushback
A grass-clipping pickup policy decided in February resurfaces off-agenda, with leaders now calling for public input before rollout
Apex, NC, Mar. 25, 2026 — A recent change to Apex’s yard waste collection policy surfaced during Tuesday’s Town Council meeting, not as a formal agenda item, but as part of council remarks acknowledging community response.
The policy, which would eliminate grass clipping collection, was decided during the Council’s February retreat. By the time it was discussed publicly this week, the focus had shifted from the decision itself to its implementation.
“It’s moved a lot of people in a different way,” one council member said.
In response, leadership signaled a potential pause before moving forward.
“I would like for us to get public input prior to moving forward with the full implementation,” the council member added.
The issue was not included on the meeting agenda or in the supporting materials, and no formal action was taken. Instead, the discussion pointed to a next step: gathering resident feedback before the policy is fully rolled out.
While narrow in scope, the exchange reflects a broader shift in how routine decisions are being received. As Apex continues to grow, even operational changes are drawing closer scrutiny, prompting leaders to reconsider not just what decisions are made, but when and how the public is brought into the process.
