Wegmans Update: Holly Springs (NC) Store Still Looking Good, Maybe Even Better, for a 2026 Start
Company says it remains committed to Holly Springs and is updating store and site plans, with a targeted submittal to the town in early February as the project’s final approval deadline approaches.
Holly Springs, NC, Dec. 17, 2025 — More than five months after the Town Council approved Wegmans’ final allowable plan extension, the grocery chain says it remains committed to building in Holly Springs, but with a revised internal timeline and updated plans still in progress.
In a statement provided to Holly Springs Update today, Wegmans said its construction schedule has shifted as other projects have moved forward and as the company has made minor design adjustments based on lessons learned from other North Carolina locations.
“We continue to be excited about the Holly Springs market and remain committed to building a store there,” wrote Marcie Rivera, Public Relations for Wegmans Food Markets, in response to an email inquiry from HSU. “Our construction timeline has shifted as other projects have come online, and minor updates have been incorporated into the store’s design.”

According to the company, Wegmans is currently updating its store design and completing site development plans, with a targeted submittal to the Town of Holly Springs in early February. Once the town’s review and approval process is complete, the company says it will be better positioned to share a more specific construction timeline.
Context: Final Extension Clock Is Running
The update comes as the clock continues to run on Wegmans’ development approval.
In July, the Town Council approved the grocer’s fourth and final six-month extension, pushing the expiration date of its development plan to February 15th. Under town regulations, no further extensions are allowed.
The proposed store would be built south of Ralph Stephens Road on Wildwood Farm Way, on a site approved initially in 2019 alongside a neighboring Lowe’s Home Improvement store. While Lowe’s opened in 2022, Wegmans has not yet broken ground.
As part of the July extension request, Wegmans indicated it anticipated breaking ground in mid-to-late 2026, contingent on submitting civil construction drawings by the February deadline and remaining actively engaged in the town’s review process.
If those drawings are not submitted by February 15th, the project approval will lapse, requiring Wegmans to restart the development approval process from the beginning.
What’s Changed and What Hasn’t
While the December 17th update does not alter the formal February deadline approved by the Town Council, it clarifies the project's current status: in the design and site planning phases, with an initial plan submittal now targeted for early February rather than earlier in the extension period.
For residents tracking the long-anticipated project, the next meaningful milestone will be whether those updated plans are formally submitted and accepted for review before the approval expires.
“We’re looking forward to Wegmans finally breaking ground and opening in Holly Springs,” said resident Katie Grady, “We’ve shopped their stores in many markets, and the quality and customer service are the best.”
