[Corrected Version] Town Council Race Expands as Sarah Larson Enters; Four Others Already Declared
Joins Drees, Cuccurullo, Foster, and Prizer in competitive council race for three seats.
Correction: An earlier version of this story listed Mike Kondratick as a former town council member. This is incorrect. We apologize for the error. It has been corrected via a strikethrough below.
Holly Springs, NC, Jun. 17, 2025 — The race for three seats on the Holly Springs Town Council gained more momentum today as local civic leader Sarah Larson officially declared her candidacy (press release), joining what is quickly becoming a crowded and competitive field.
Larson, who has lived in Holly Springs for over 11 years, announced her campaign is built around the themes of People, Policy, and Progress. She is running on a platform that emphasizes improved communication, sustainable growth, and greater affordability throughout the town.
“With my experience working with small businesses and my community involvement, I am able to bridge the gap between residents and decision-makers so everyone in our town feels heard, supported, and empowered,” Larson said in a press release issued Thursday morning.
Larson’s record of service includes leadership roles in the Oak Hall HOA, PTA, the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee, and the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. She is also a substitute teacher and executive director of a local nonprofit. A veteran of the Air National Guard, she says her campaign is about “showing up and listening” and aims to bring a “fresh, service-driven perspective” to the Town Council.
Larson is the fifth candidate to publicly declare a run for one of the three open Town Council seats up for election this November. The four others already announced are:
Annie Drees (press release)
Joe Cuccurullo (press release)
Kara Foster (press release)
Josh Prizer (press release)
Holly Springs Update previously reported their announcements in a series of articles beginning in early May.
Mayoral Race in Early Stage
While the council race has attracted multiple early entrants, the race for mayor has also begun to take shape. Mike Kondratick, a former council member, officially declared his candidacy for mayor on May 28 (press release). He is the first challenger to step forward in the mayoral race.
Although incumbent Mayor Sean Mayefskie has not issued a public statement or contacted Holly Springs Update, the Holly Springs Committee for Responsible Government (hscrg.org) lists him as intending to seek re-election.
