Apex, NC, March 12, 2026 — A weekend of pickleball and community support is coming to Apex this spring as Felton Grove High School hosts “The Big Brass Clash,” a two-day pickleball fundraiser benefiting the school’s band program.
Community-based fundraising has become increasingly important for high school arts programs, which often rely on donations and events to supplement school funding for competitions, performances, and instructional resources.
The event will take place May 17th–18th at Felton Grove High School, and is open to players looking for a friendly match or experienced competitors seeking a weekend challenge.
Registration & Tournament Format
Players interested in competing can register online (site) for the tournament, which will feature several divisions organized by skill level and age group. Participants are encouraged to sign up with a partner, but organizers say they can help match players who need one.
The weekend competition will include multiple doubles formats across two days of play.
Saturday’s schedule includes:
Mixed Doubles
Age divisions: Under 50 and 50+
Skill levels: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+
Sunday’s schedule includes:
Men’s Doubles
Women’s Doubles
Age divisions: Under 50 and 50+
Skill levels: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+
If registration numbers allow, organizers say additional age divisions may be created. Smaller divisions may be combined if needed to ensure competitive brackets.
The tournament will be a non-DUPR event, meaning results will not count toward players’ official Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) rankings.
Supporting Student Musicians
All proceeds from the event will support Felton Grove High School band programming, helping to fund instruments, equipment, travel, and other opportunities for student performers.
The tournament is being directed by Kimberly and Marc Macenko, with support from the Hendricks family, as part of broader fundraising efforts for the band program.
