Lindsay Mahaffey Reelected to WCPSS Board; Other Incumbents Retain Seats

Wake County voters have reaffirmed their trust in Lindsay Mahaffey, reelecting her to the District 8 seat on the Wake County Board of Education. Mahaffey secured 58.9% of the vote (36,872 ballots), defeating challenger Elizabeth McDuffie, who garnered 40.5% (25,346 ballots). A small portion of votes, 427 (0.7%), were write-ins.
Mahaffey, 42, a former teacher and mother of three children in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), has represented District 8 since 2016. Her district includes parts of Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, and New Hill. Known for her focus on teacher pay, equitable access to education, and school infrastructure, Mahaffey’s victory highlights continued community support for her advocacy and leadership.

In the November 5 election, incumbents across WCPSS retained their seats, preserving the board's 7-2 Democratic majority.
- District 1: Heather Scott was reelected with 60.2% of the vote, defeating challenger Mark Snyder, who received 39.8%.
- District 2: Dorian Hamilton retained her seat, winning 55.4% of the vote against opponent Travis Smith’s 44.6%.
- District 4: Tara Waters secured her position with a commanding 67% of the vote, far outpacing challenger Jay Robinson, who earned 33%.
- District 5: Incumbent Jim Martin also cruised to victory, winning 64% of the vote against competitor Mike Delaney.
