Holly Springs, NC, Oct. 24, 2025 — This past Tuesday, the Holly Springs Town Council unanimously approved an Economic Development Agreement (EDA) with Ypsomed Manufacturing USA (website), clearing the way for the Switzerland-based medical technology company to establish its first North American manufacturing facility in Holly Springs.
Economic Development Director Irena Krstanovic presented the agreement (document) during the meeting, describing the project as “a great fit for our community” and emphasizing its role in diversifying Holly Springs’ growing life-sciences sector.
“We are excited that, via a joint press release between the Town of Holly Springs, Wake County, and the company, Ypsomed has announced that they will be locating their first North American manufacturing facility in Holly Springs,” Krstanovic told the council. “They will be investing $195 million and bringing 62 high-paying jobs to our community by occupying the existing building that is part of our YIELD Holly Springs development.”
Agreement Details
Under the EDA, Ypsomed will receive a Business Investment Grant equal to 50 percent of town property taxes paid each year on the new taxable value it creates, for a period of eight years, with a maximum value of $2.68 million. The company’s investment is projected at $195.4 million in property, equipment, and upfit, and it must create 62 full-time positions with an average annual wage of $89,813.
The agreement also includes several non-monetary incentives:
- The Town will expedite permitting and inspections through a customized review schedule.
- Ypsomed will qualify for the industrial water rate.
- The company must maintain domestic-level wastewater discharge to the Utley Creek Water Reclamation Facility.
Krstanovic told council members that because the project involves an existing facility, “a lot of the work has already been done,” enabling Ypsomed to meet its aggressive construction and operational timelines.
Location and Future Expansion
Ypsomed will purchase and customize Building H, an approximately 110,000-square-foot facility at 11401 Holly Springs New Hill Road (map), within the YIELD Holly Springs campus developed by Crescent Communities. The property, part of the larger Holly Springs Business Park off N.C. 55, is currently valued by Wake County at $18.9 million.
In addition to the existing building, Ypsomed is purchasing an adjacent 14-acre parcel, referred to as “Pod 3”, for future growth and expansion. Krstanovic confirmed to the council that the project complies with all existing traffic and infrastructure conditions established for the YIELD development.
“All of the traffic mitigation improvements laid out with the Phase 1 development of this business park are already installed and match with Ypsomed as the projected occupancy,” she said.
Following Krstanovic’s presentation, the council voted unanimously to approve the agreement and authorize staff to execute the necessary transactions.
A Strategic Win for Holly Springs
Mayor Sean Mayefskie, in the October 9 joint press release issued by Wake County Economic Development and the Town of Holly Springs, said Ypsomed’s arrival represents an important milestone in the town’s ongoing effort to attract diverse, high-value employers.
“This announcement brings an expansion in the life science offerings in Holly Springs, diversifying the types of companies located here,” Mayefskie said in the release. “Everyone knows about the global biotech leaders who call Holly Springs home, and Ypsomed will provide needed medical device supplies to contribute to the creation of life-saving medications these companies will produce right here in Holly Springs.”
Ypsomed, founded in Burgdorf, Switzerland, is a global leader in injection and infusion systems for self-medication, partnering with major pharmaceutical and biotech firms. In its October 10 corporate announcement, Ypsomed CEO Simon Michel said the company selected Holly Springs “at the heart of our industry, close to our customers,” citing “the cooperative approach of the local authorities, the excellent infrastructure, and the proximity to top-tier universities” as ideal conditions for future growth.
The company expects to make its investment over the next five years, with operations slated to begin by late 2027. Wake County has also approved complementary incentives, including a county-level Business Investment Grant valued at up to $4.04 million over eight years, with an optional workforce mobility bonus for meeting additional employment goals.
Krstanovic called the partnership a “strategic win,” noting that the project will help reduce the town’s reliance on residential property taxes while expanding local access to high-paying jobs.
“We are a step further in the industry diversification with this being a medical technology company,” she said. “We expand our local tech base with this announcement, and they have plans to grow. It’s just a great fit for our community.”
