Holly Springs (NC) Plans Year-Long 150th Anniversary Celebration Starting in July 2026
Town outlines festivals, historical programming, and resident-driven initiatives leading to a downtown finale in 2027
Holly Springs, NC, Mar. 19, 2026 — Holly Springs is preparing to mark a major milestone with a year-long 150th anniversary celebration set to begin July 5th, with town leaders outlining early plans that emphasize community participation, local history, and events spread across the entire year.
The sesquicentennial effort, previewed during the March 17th Town Council meeting, is designed to extend well beyond a single festival. Instead, the town is building a coordinated series of programs and activities that will carry into 2027, culminating in a large downtown finale expected to include a drone show and other signature elements.
“This is really a sneak preview of all the exciting things that are going to happen with our year-long 150th celebration,” Communications & Marketing Director Cassie Hack told the council.
A Year-Long Approach, Not a Single Event
Rather than concentrating activity into one weekend or a single event, Holly Springs is planning a celebration that unfolds over time and integrates into events residents already attend. The goal is to make the anniversary part of everyday life in the community, rather than something separate from it.
Among the early concepts is a model train show that reflects the town’s railroad roots, offering a direct connection to Holly Springs’ early history. Another planned feature, “Holly Quest,” will serve as a townwide scavenger hunt designed to encourage residents to explore parks, neighborhoods, and local landmarks.
Town staff indicated that anniversary themes will also be woven into existing festivals and community events, creating a consistent presence throughout the year rather than adding an entirely new layer of programming.

Capturing the Town’s Story Through Its Residents
A central piece of the celebration will be a “150 Stories” initiative, which invites residents, business owners, and community members to share personal experiences and memories tied to Holly Springs.
The effort is intended to document the town’s history through the people who have lived it, not just through official milestones or timelines.
“Holly Springs really is about the people who make this such a wonderful community to live in,” Hack said, emphasizing that the anniversary is meant to reflect the community as much as the town itself.
The town expects this storytelling component to become one of the most visible and lasting elements of the celebration, helping connect newer residents with the experiences of those who have been in Holly Springs longer.
Businesses and Community Groups Will Play a Role
Town leaders also made clear that the celebration will not be limited to government-led programming. Local businesses are expected to participate by offering themed products, hosting events, or incorporating the anniversary into their marketing and operations.
Community organizations and civic groups are likewise being encouraged to contribute, creating opportunities for the celebration to take place across different parts of town rather than being centered in a single location.
Genentech has already committed as the premier sponsor of the 150th anniversary, providing early support for the initiative and signaling that additional partnerships may follow.
A Milestone for a Changing Town
The 150th anniversary arrives at a time when Holly Springs continues to experience significant growth. Town leaders framed the celebration as an opportunity to reflect on how the community has evolved while also strengthening connections among residents.
By focusing on participation, storytelling, and integration with existing events, the town is positioning the anniversary as both a look back at its history and a way to build community identity moving forward.
What Residents Can Expect
While the overall framework is now in place, many details are still being developed. Specific event dates, participation opportunities, and additional programming are expected to be announced in phases as the July 2026 kickoff approaches.
Residents can expect to see more information about how to contribute to the “150 Stories” initiative, as well as updates on events, partnerships, and ways to get involved throughout the year.
