Holly Springs, NC, Mar. 9, 2026 — Holly Springs Town Council recognized two groups that reflect the town’s strong community spirit during its March 3 meeting: the Girl Scouts organization and the Holly Springs High School cheerleading team. The proclamations highlighted youth leadership, community service, and a remarkable run of championship athletic achievement.
Celebrating Girl Scout Week
Mayor Mike Kondratick presented a proclamation (document) recognizing Girl Scout Week (March 8th –14th), celebrating the organization’s more than a century-long role in developing leadership and civic engagement among girls.
The proclamation notes that Girl Scouts of the USA was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, with the mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
Council’s recognition highlighted the organization’s continued influence in areas such as community service, outdoor leadership, science and technology learning, and arts and cultural activities.
Anika Palekar, representing the Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines Council, attended the meeting to accept the proclamation on behalf of local Girl Scouts and thanked the council for recognizing the organization’s impact.
“Girl Scouts is more than just cookies and camping. It is a leadership organization dedicated to building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place,” Palekar said.
Mayor Kondratick also thanked the organization for the many ways local Girl Scouts contribute to the community through service projects and volunteer efforts.
Honoring a Championship Cheer Team
Council also recognized the Holly Springs High School Cheer Team for an extraordinary run of competitive success at the state level.
The team has captured four consecutive North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) state championships, winning titles in 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026.
In addition to their state titles, the team has also earned several major regional honors, including Tri-Six Conference Champions, Wake County Champions, and Regional Champions in 2025.
During the recognition, Mayor Kondratick congratulated the athletes and acknowledged the dedication required to compete at the highest levels of high school athletics.
“I want to congratulate all of you athletes for all of the time and effort I know it takes to be state champions in your sport,” he said.
The proclamation (document) also recognized the support of families and the coaching staff, including head coach Robin Rizzo, whose leadership has helped guide the program to sustained success.
Council members noted that the team’s achievements reflect not only athletic excellence but also discipline, teamwork, and school pride.
Celebrating Community Achievement
