Holly Springs High School Cheer Team Shines at State Championship
Varsity cheer team claims first place in the small co-ed varsity division for the second consecutive year
HOLLY SPRINGS, NC, Dec. 18, 2024 — The Holly Springs High School cheerleading teams brought their energy, skill, and determination to the North Carolina State Championship earlier this month, earning top honors in an impressive display of athleticism and dedication.
The Junior Varsity (JV) team secured third place in their division, while the Varsity team achieved an even greater milestone by claiming first place in the small co-ed varsity division, marking them as state champions for the second consecutive year.
"This is a feel-good story that we love to hear from our local high school," said a town council member during a recent meeting. "Competition is the only event that is truly theirs to show off their skills, talents that they've worked so hard to achieve behind the scenes."
Coach Robin Rizzo, who leads the program, expressed pride in her athletes. They balance cheerleading for football and basketball games with rigorous practice schedules. Their success is a testament to their "perseverance and willingness to learn new stunts, " which allows them to compete at this high level.
The Varsity team’s back-to-back state championship victories in two divisions highlight their versatility and commitment. "Being named state champs two years in a row in two different divisions is something to be obviously very, very proud of," noted one council speaker.
The council also recognized individual team members and celebrated their achievements, calling the moment "cool" and congratulating the athletes and their dedicated coaches.
With such strong performances, the Holly Springs High School cheerleading program continues to set a high standard for excellence, making the town and its supporters immensely proud.
