Holly Springs Celebrates National Public Works Week with Proclamation and Performance Highlights
Mayor Mayefskie issued the official proclamation, praising public works professionals as foundational to community strength and service.

Holly Springs, NC, May 22, 2025 — The Holly Springs Town Council formally recognized the essential contributions of the Public Works and Utilities and Infrastructure Departments during its May 20 business meeting, proclaiming May 18–24 as National Public Works Week in the town.
This year’s theme, “People, Purpose, Presence,” guided the recognition, emphasizing these departments' critical role in maintaining and improving the town’s infrastructure and quality of life. Mayor Sean Mayefskie issued the official proclamation, praising public works professionals as foundational to community strength and service.
The Council also spotlighted a series of key performance achievements:
A 70% reduction in preventable vehicle accidents, attributed to telematics-based fleet monitoring.
A 62% decrease in missed waste pickups since July 2024, demonstrating improved service reliability.
3,772 visits to the Yard Waste Convenience Center, indicating strong community participation in waste reduction efforts.
Additional accomplishments highlighted included extensive infrastructure maintenance, stormwater management, and the successful delivery of routine and complex utility services across the town.
Mayor Mayefskie’s proclamation emphasized the importance of public awareness and appreciation for the work performed by these teams.
“It is in the public interest for the citizens, civic leaders and children in North Carolina to gain knowledge of and to maintain an ongoing interest and understanding of the importance of public works and public works programs in their respective communities.”
National Public Works Week, established by the American Public Works Association in 1960, is celebrated nationwide to honor those who manage and maintain vital public infrastructure. The observance recognized past efforts in Holly Springs and encouraged continued service excellence.
