Felton Grove High School Band Wins Best in Class 2A at Mustang Classic
At its first-ever competition, the band impressed judges, winning multiple awards for its three-part show “Under Construction”
Holly Springs, NC, Oct. 6, 2025 — The Felton Grove High School Band made a powerful debut at the 10th Annual Mustang Classic this past Saturday, earning the Best in Class 2A title along with multiple first-place awards in its first-ever competition since the school opened earlier this year.

Hosted by Middle Creek High School in Apex, the Mustang Classic brought together more than a dozen high school bands from across North Carolina for an evening of music, movement, and showmanship. The event featured performances from schools including Wake Forest, Cary, Knightdale, and Willow Spring, all culminating in an awards ceremony that recognized excellence across six competitive classes.
Under the direction of Chris Foster, Felton Grove presented “Under Construction,” a three-part production that blended driving rhythms and visual creativity in a story of progress and perseverance.
Judged by an expert panel, including Chief Judge Matt Pellas, the Mustang Classic evaluated each performance in five categories: music performance, general effect, visual design, percussion, and color guard. Felton Grove’s high marks across all categories earned the school the Best in Class 2A recognition among a competitive field.
“This was a historic night for our program,” said Foster. “Our students put everything they had into the performance, musically and emotionally. To earn these honors in our very first season is something they’ll remember forever.”
Now in its tenth year, the Mustang Classic is a highlight of the fall marching season in the Triangle. Hosted by the Middle Creek High School Mighty Marching Mustangs and the MCHS Band Boosters, the event serves as both a showcase for regional talent and a fundraiser supporting music education across Wake County.
