Felton Grove Galaxy Earns First-Ever Football Victory at Home Opener
QB Chase Watts scores 3 TDs as a packed home crowd, Apex and Holly Springs mayors, and school spirit marked the historic night with a 35-14 win.
Apex, NC, Aug. 22, 2025 — South Wake County’s newest high school, Felton Grove, made history Thursday night as the Galaxy football team took the field for its first-ever home game. In front of a packed stadium of fans, the Galaxy notched its inaugural win, defeating Green Level High School 35-14.
Quarterback Chase Watts led the charge, running the ball in for three touchdowns, including the school’s first-ever score. That milestone came after Nick Colton forced a fumble with a sack, setting up Watts’ moment in the spotlight. Sutton Gordon and Zeke Franck added touchdowns of their own to cap off a dominant offensive performance.
Because Felton Grove currently has only freshmen and sophomores enrolled, the game featured junior varsity squads from both schools. Still, the contest carried the intensity and energy of a varsity matchup.
The home team stands were packed, with a spirited student section cheering loudly throughout the night. The Felton Grove band, cheerleaders, and dance squad kept the energy high, performing throughout the game to support the players.
The significance of the night drew civic leaders as well. Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert and Holly Springs Mayor Sean Mayefskie were both in attendance to celebrate the occasion alongside families and students.
With its first win secured, Felton Grove looks to build momentum when it returns to its home field on Thursday, August 28th at 6:30 p.m.
