Did You See That? South Wake County (NC) Set for a Stunning Cold Moon Show Tonight
December’s full moon and the final supermoon of 2025, rises Thursday evening at 6:14 p.m.
Holly Springs, NC, Dec. 4, 2025 — South Wake County will get one last celestial show before year’s end as the Cold Moon, December’s full moon and the final supermoon of 2025, rises tonight. The moon reaches full illumination at 6:14 p.m., but the real magic happens just after moonrise, when it lifts over the eastern horizon, appearing unusually large, bright, and dramatic.
Because this month’s full moon occurs while the Moon is near its closest point to Earth, it will shine brighter and slightly bigger than average, creating prime viewing conditions across Holly Springs, Apex, and Fuquay-Varina.
Best viewing:
Find a spot with a clear view to the east and minimal light pollution. Local favorites include Parrish Womble Park, Sugg Farm at Bass Lake Park, and Harris Lake County Park. The lower the obstructions, the better the moonrise show.
How to view:
No special equipment is needed. The supermoon will be easily visible to the naked eye. But binoculars or a small telescope can reveal crisp details across the moon’s surface.
Clear skies permitting, South Wake residents can expect one of the brightest and most photographic moons of the year, a perfect excuse to step outside, pause, and look up.
